A cystocele refers to the prolapse, or “drooping,” of the bladder from its normal position into the vagina. This occurs due to a weakening of the vaginal wall that may be caused by childbirth, heavy lifting, being overweight, or chronic coughing, among other factors. If you feel increased pressure on the pelvis or feel as though your bladder is descending into your vaginal opening, these symptoms may be indicative of cystocele. Dr. Haverland can often treat all three grades of a cystocele with non-surgical solutions—although surgery may be necessary to address severe cases.

Often characterized by pain in the pelvis or lower abdomen, endometriosis is a disease in which the tissue that lines the uterine wall (called the endometrium) grows outside of the uterus. In addition to painful symptoms, endometriosis can also cause abnormal bleeding, bladder and bowel issues, and difficulty getting pregnant. At our women’s health practice, this condition can be treated using an array of minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures depending on your needs and preferences.
Excess Labial or Clitoral Tissue
Stretched or redundant tissue in the inner labia, outer labia, or clitoris can cause both cosmetic and functional concerns for many women. Whether you’re troubled by visible bulging through clothing, painful twisting and tugging, or self-consciousness during intimate situations, the cosmetic gynecology services at our practice can remove and recontour excess tissue to rejuvenate your feminine wellness.

An imbalance in your body’s natural production of estrogen and progesterone may lead to disruptions in essential body processes—particularly for women who are perimenopausal or menopausal. Too little or too much production of a certain hormone can cause several concerns, such as irregular periods, weight gain, mood changes, heart palpitations, changes in appetite, fatigue, and muscle weakness, among many other symptoms. We offer treatment to regulate your hormone levels, reduce your symptoms, and address PCOS, which is the most commonly experienced reason for hormonal imbalances among women of reproductive age.

The reason(s) why some women may experience a low sex drive or a lack of sexual desire—commonly known as Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSSD)—may range from hormonal fluctuation to the effects of certain medications, such as SSRIs and antidepressants. Fortunately, low libido in women can often be treated with hormone therapy or medications to restore a more positive and fulfilling sex life.

Pain during intercourse can stem from a variety of factors, including dryness, menopause, fibroids, vaginal infections, ovarian problems, or conditions like endometriosis, vulvodynia, and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). Dr. Haverland can perform pelvic and diagnostic exams to determine why sex may be painful for you, and work with you to treat the underlying reason(s) or gynecologic conditions that may be causing painful intercourse.

Acute or chronic pelvic pain, which refers to pain that lasts for more than six months, is a very common health concern among women. Highland Gynecology offers treatments that range from medication therapy to laparoscopic surgery to improve (or even eliminate) pelvic pain based on the origin and severity of your symptoms.

A rectocele refers to the bulging of the rectal wall into the vagina. This type of prolapse occurs when the supportive tissues between the rectum and the vagina weaken. While this condition often does not cause severe concerns, a rectocele may necessitate surgical repair if symptoms—such as the sensation of rectal pressure or difficulty having a bowel movement—have not improved with conservative treatments.
Perineoplasty | Pelvic Organ Prolapse Repair
Sexual dysfunction in women can encompass a number of problems related to difficulty achieving orgasm, a lack of arousal or desire, or pain during intercourse. Dysfunction may arise at different stages of a woman’s life, and may be precipitated by physical and gynecological conditions as much as emotional and psychological stress. Fortunately, many cases of sexual dysfunction can be effectively improved with conservative, non-surgical treatment options.

Dr. Haverland understands that urinary incontinence, or diminished bladder control, can cause embarrassment and distress throughout one’s daily life. In addition to accidental leakage while coughing or sneezing, severe urinary incontinence can also lead to “accidents” caused by the sudden and overwhelming urge to empty the bladder. Our team is committed to helping women improve incontinence with cutting-edge treatments designed to restore their confidence and peace of mind.

A fibroid is a growth of muscular tissue that develops on the wall of the uterus. While they are almost always non-cancerous, fibroids can cause disruptive symptoms like heavy menstrual bleeding, prolonged periods, a feeling of fullness in the pelvis, and pain, among other negative effects. If your symptoms are affecting your quality of life, Dr. Haverland can use minimally invasive approaches—such as medications and robotic-assisted gynecologic procedures—to remove your fibroid(s) and restore your menstrual/pelvic health.
Myomectomy | Hormone Replacement Therapy
When the pelvic floor muscles weaken, the uterus can descend towards the vagina and potentially bulge through the vaginal opening. In many cases, this uterine prolapse may resolve on its own; however, patients who experience ongoing symptoms like bleeding, sexual dysfunction, or difficulty with bowel movements may require treatment. Dr. Haverland can create a personalized treatment plan of non-surgical or laparoscopic solutions to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles and restore support for the uterus.
Pelvic Organ Prolapse Repair | Pelvic Floor BOTOX® Injections | Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy | Hysterectomy
Vaginal bleeding refers to unexpected bleeding that is unrelated to your menstrual cycle. This can be a sign of anything from a fibroid or polyp to an infection or hormonal imbalance. Since abnormal bleeding can be caused by many different gynecologic conditions and medical concerns, diagnostic testing may be necessary to determine the most appropriate treatment(s) to reduce or stop vaginal bleeding.
Hormone Replacement Therapy
A loss of vaginal tightness caused by childbirth or the natural aging process can lead to decreased sexual satisfaction, sexual dysfunction, and even urinary incontinence. That said, women no longer need to passively accept these unfavorable symptoms. At Highland Gynecology, our surgical and non-surgical rejuvenation treatments are designed to combat vaginal laxity and improve the quality of one’s sexual health, as well as their general well-being.
